itsshoeboxtime_001operation-christmas-child-2013panelFor many years, The Lakeway Church has been involved in OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD, an outreach of Samaritan’s Purse charitable organization whose mission is “to follow the example of Christ by helping those in need and proclaiming the hope of the Gospel.”  “The power of a simple gift” is the theme of Operation Christmas Child, the shoebox ministry that reaches to the far corners of the world.  Shoeboxes are packed with tons of items that disadvantaged kids all over the world have probably never had.

Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is formatted a little differently this year.  For the last few years, we requested donations for the shoeboxes followed by a packing party to fill those boxes. This year, we’re taking a step back in time to around 2012, when folks shopped and packed their own shoeboxes.  By doing so, families will again enjoy the experience of putting their hearts into each box, just like packing for a loved one.

Although we had a large number of Samaritan’s Purse shoeboxes to be handed out at the church, all of them have now been claimed!  If you would like to participate, please fill and return your own shoebox.  If you can, please wrap the box and the top separately with Christmas wrapping paper.  There are specific items that you may or may not include in the boxes.  Please CLICK HERE for packing instructions.

Each shoebox costs $9 to ship, so we are also requesting monetary donations to cover shipping.  Please mark your donation “OCC shipping” and turn in to the church office.

We will be getting together on Sunday, October 22, in Fellowship Hall for lunch and a SHIPPING PARTY!  Bring your family, friends and neighbors!
