Women’s Ministry Upcoming Events
The Refuge, a facility for the long-term rehabilitation of girls who are survivors of domestic minor child sex trafficking, is now a permanent outreach of The Lakeway Church. It is supported financially as well as with volunteer time and effort. The Women’s Ministry Steering Committee has a subcommittee, chaired by Carole Dueser, that is continually developing ways in which we can be of service. Current involvement:
Several Lakeway Church volunteers have been going to The Refuge once a month to help organize the Boutique. When the girls arrive, they can go to the Boutique and select several outfits. All of the clothing is donated, brand new and very stylish! There is a variety of clothing (summer and winter), all sizes and shapes, as well as shoes, boots, etc, so it is quite a challenge to sort everything. Once this is done, it will all be inventoried. Covid protocols are still in place so the volunteers are never around the girls. The Boutique is not available to them while the volunteers are there. This month, Sue Durio and Belinda Silva, The Refuge liaisons from our Outreach Committee petitioned Heather Meyer, from the Rooted Program to include The Refuge as part of their service projects. One group assembled back packs for the house moms; another group put together beautiful art packages. Rooted members also collected blanket donations. While our worship service/meal stopped due to Covid, the Refuge is looking for other ways groups of volunteers can be actively involved. They are grateful for all the help and support provided by The Lakeway Church.
