Women’s Ministry Upcoming Events

Live at Peace with Food & Body- March 30th

Join women of all ages (including women with their daughters over 12) in a new approach to food and body image.  A workshop will be led by Emily Haeussler, RDN, LD on Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 9:00 am-noon. It will be held at The Lakeway Church, Fellowship Hall, Building C.

We will learn to move away from feeling guilt and shame about food and our bodies.  We will begin to challenge fundamental beliefs about food and body, to learn how to separate eating from emotions and to listen to the wisdom of our bodies.  As we begin to see ourselves through Christ’s eyes of love and compassion, it will be easy to proclaim, “I praise You because I am awesomely and wonderfully made.”  Psalm 139:13  Come join us!

There is no cost for this event, but space is limited.  Please reserve your seating by the end of the day, Monday, March 25; REGISTER HERE.  For more information or questions, contact Vickie Taylor at spellbrook@austin.rr.com.

You can find more information on Emily Haeussler at www.CenteredEating.com.

Chili Cook Off- April 3rd

Here's an exciting HEADS-UP!  The Lakeway Church Women's Ministry is sponsoring an old-fashioned Chili Cook Off for the April Wednesday night supper on April 3.  We are looking for a few more folks to prepare a pot of chili. We will have voting and award prizes for the best batch. First prize two nights at Vintage Villas.  Please contact Sharon Rogers at teefortwo@sbcglobal.net. or 512-987-5696 before March 27, 2019 if you are willing to cook some chili.

Human Trafficking is CLOSER than you think!

The Refuge, a facility for the long-term rehabilitation of girls who are survivors of domestic minor child sex trafficking, is now a permanent outreach of The Lakeway Church. It is supported financially as well as with volunteer time and effort. The Women’s Ministry Steering Committee has a subcommittee, chaired by Carole Dueser, that is continually developing ways in which we can be of service. Current involvement:

  • A Worship Team brings a short evening service to the girls and house moms one night every month. Also, the Team takes dinner, which is prepared by a Food Committee. There are 10 members on the Team, each completing extensive volunteer requirements in order to have direct contact with the girls, and they rotate going five at a time.
  • Thanks to the efforts of Sharon Rogers, craft kits are being sent with the Worship Team and distributed to the girls for an after-dinner activity.
  • Members of TLC’s Pottery Class are cutting and firing DOVE-shaped tiles, which are part of the Dove Tile Project Kits being shipped across the country. Volunteers are needed and appreciated. Time: Monday, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon, Youth Building.
  • How can you help: The Refuge is continually looking for therapists, house moms and therapeutic care staff. Please go to https://therefugeaustin.org for additional information.
