Fight Right

Philippians 2:1-8 and Matthew 7:12 provide a powerful framework for handling conflict in relationships. Philippians calls us to approach others with humility, selflessness, and the mindset of Christ, prioritizing their needs above our own. Matthew 7:12, the Golden Rule, challenges us to treat others as we want to be treated, fostering mutual respect and empathy. Together, these verses teach us to fight for the relationship, not to win arguments or prove we are right. Instead of seeking victory, we seek understanding, reconciliation, and unity, valuing the person and the connection over being right. This approach fosters healthy, grace-filled relationships that reflect Christ’s love.

 Scripture Reading: Philipians 2:1-8

‘So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.’ Matthew 7:12 (NIV)

‘Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.’  Ephesians 5:1 (NIV)

Week 1: The Power of Words

Pastor Scott begins a two-week series rooted in biblical wisdom, Relationship Reset. You will discover the path to thriving relationships and learn how to restore, strengthen, and bring life to your most important relationships.

 Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4:29 + Proverbs 18:21

Ephesians 4:29 and Proverbs 18:21 together emphasize the incredible power of our words. Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that our words hold the power of life and death, while Ephesians 4:29 urges us to speak only words that build up and give grace. Practically, this means recognizing that our words can either uplift and encourage or wound and destroy. Speaking positively brings life, strengthens relationships, and reflects God’s grace. Conversely, negative or careless words can harm, discourage, and break trust. These verses challenge us to be mindful of our speech, using it as a tool to bless and nurture others.
