Wilderness Ranch Prep Mission Trip: May 18 – 24

Join Lakeway Church on our annual Short-Term Mission Trip to Creede, Colorado, where we will prepare Wilderness Ranch Young Life Camp for their summer camps. Our days will be spent building, de-winterizing, painting, landscaping, and preparing tents, supplies, and all the tasks and projects needed before campers arrive.

Every summer, hundreds of teens will venture into the Colorado wilderness with Young Life to have a life-changing encounter with God away from their normal social dynamic and the routines of their everyday lives. This is an incredible opportunity for ministry at a strategic point in their lives, and we get to be a part of helping to make that happen!

Friends, families, couples, and individuals are all welcome! We need all skill levels from “I live and breathe construction” to “I’ve never held a hammer in my life.” The most important is an attitude of service and a willingness to work!

This trip is best for…

Daily work is assigned according to your ability, and everyone always has a job!
– Placing solar lanterns along the walkways
– Spreading mulch /chips & other landscaping jobs
– Cleaning backpacks & inventorying supplies
– Preparing tents & setting up bunk beds
– De-Winterizing & Painting

What: Lakeway Church is partnering with Young Life’s Wilderness Ranch to help get the camp ready for the Summer Camp Season!

Why:  Sacrificial outreach is one of the marks of Lakeway Church. We believe every follower of Jesus is called to love and serve others in Jesus’ name. Stepping out in faith to serve others will have a transformative impact on your life.

Cost: $25 per person + cost of your transportation (and meals on travel days)

Travel:
Transportation and meals on travel days are at your own expense.  You are not required but welcome to, travel with the group (those in the van will owe a small per-person fee for the cost of fuel).  Below are a couple of travel options and some information to help.

Wilderness Ranch is ‘out there’, tucked up in the San Juan Mountains of southwest Colorado. We know it’s a long way, and transportation is at your own expense, giving you the freedom to tag on vacation in the cool weather before/after the mission trip!  If you choose to fly, the easiest is a 2-hour flight to Albuquerque, then rent a car and drive 4.5 hrs to Wilderness Ranch.

For those riding in / caravanning up with the Church Van, you all will leave Lakeway Church on the morning of May 18th and arrive in Angel Fire, NM, that evening.  There, you will be hosted by members of our church (The Heddins) in their Chalets at the Aspen Springs Cabin Rentals; thank you, Dean and Nelisa!  All will depart the following morning for Colorado.

FOR ALL TRAVELERS: once in Creede, you will take the 149 for 20 miles, then turn onto the Rio Grande Reservoir Road towards Wilderness Ranch.  Please plan to arrive at Wilderness Ranch by noon on May 19th.

Schedule of Work Days:

Monday, May 19th: Half Work Day
Tuesday, May 20th: Full Work Day
Wednesday, May 21st: Spiritual Formation Day
Thursday, May 22nd: Full Work Day
Friday, May 23rd: Morning Only Work
Accommodations:
Once you arrive at Wilderness Ranch, room and board are provided. Lodging is a separate bunk style for boys’ and girls’ cabins (couples will sleep separately). You will need to bring towels and linens for twin-sized beds. Limited rooms are available for couples/families to share at the camp; however, the dormitory accommodations are very nice. Each meal was a feast, and every evening after supper, you will be led in worship, a lesson, prayer, and fellowship.
A few final notes:
Van seats and private rooms at Wilderness Ranch on a first come first served basis
Bring warm clothing (it snowed this time last year)
Bring your bedding/sleeping bag ,plus warm sheets
Bring your towels
